As we continue to walk through these days of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are grateful for your prayers, your feedback, your encouragement, and your ongoing commitment to Springfield First. Now we would like to inform you of our plans for Christmas Eve.
Since August, we have been exploring options for celebrating Christmas Eve in safe and meaningful ways. We love Christmas Eve at Springfield First! Prior to Covid, our typical Christmas Eve attendance often exceeded 2,500 people. In light of the pandemic, we have decided that Christmas Eve 2020 will be offered only online. Below are the main reasons that led us to this decision.
First, the ongoing pandemic will soon coincide with the cold and flu season. With recent Covid numbers on the rise, local doctors and health officials are recommending that large groups of people not be gathered together. As you know, we just made the decision to go virtual with our Sunday morning worship services (though the noon parking lot service will continue as is). Second, if we were to hold in-person Christmas Eve services, we would likely reach room capacity and thus be forced to turn people away on Christmas Eve. At best, our overall attendance would be much lower than in years past. Third, our great worship and technical arts teams make it possible for us to try something new in order to share the good news of Christmas. By embracing an all-online format, we have the opportunity to reach thousands of people with the message of Christ this Christmas. We will offer both a contemporary service and a traditional service for Christmas Eve, and each service will be incredible! We cannot wait to share these services with you!
We realize that moving Christmas Eve services entirely online will bring sadness to some. We are with you. We truly pray that the pandemic will end quickly. We do believe, however, that the online format will allow us to keep people safe while stepping into new possibilities that will ultimately be a great blessing through God’s help.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. May we continue to trust God as we walk through the upcoming seasons of Advent and Christmas.
