Hearts at Home Conference – Founded in 1994, Hearts at Home exists to encourage women in the profession of motherhood. Mothers, this is the hardest job you will ever have and we enter this profession with no training. That is one reason this conference is so important. It is designed just for you! The dates are March 12 & 13 in Normal, IL. The cost is $85 for the Saturday session if paid before February 10. After the 10th,  the cost is $90. If you wish to take part in Mom’s Night Out on Friday, it is another $10.00. Watch for conference materials/registration forms at our Welcome Center, or go to HeartsatHome.org.  For more information contact Carli Burton at 793-9760, ext. 121 or cburton@springfieldfirst.org.

Homeless Shelter Volunteers – The churches of Springfield have again been asked to help staff an emergency overflow shelter for the homeless this winter (November through March). The SOS shelter will once again be housed in our Downtown facility. Volunteers will be asked to work at the shelter one night a month to help check in guests and supervise them as they get settled for the night (a paid staff person will be onsite as well). Onsite volunteers usually are onsite from 6:00-10:30 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to  make food, bring it to the shelter, and stay long enough to help serve (classes and groups are encouraged to do this together). Those who will serve onsite will be asked to attend a brief training meeting (details soon) and will receive a volunteer manual. If you would volunteer for either of those roles, please sign up at the Welcome Center or contact Rev. Vince Rohn at 793-9760 ext. 238 or vrohn@springfieldfirst.org.

Supplies for Kumler Needed – In addition to the need for food, Kumler currently has a particular need for deodorant, conditioner, laundry detergent, blankets, and adult gloves. There are boxes by both the entrances. Thank you so much.

Disciple 1 Bible Study – Sign-up at our Welcome Center now. Classes begin Tuesday, September 1, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in Room 5, cost is $35.00 per person, which includes the study book. This 34 week study, that surveys the entire Bible from creation to the New Jerusalem is a wonderful foundation from which we can learn to share our faith with others. It is an excellent tool for parents and Sunday school teachers in explaining faith to children. Loren Bennett a long time member of First United Methodist Church is motivated by the Spirit in teaching this course and comes highly recommended by Reverend Bob McDonald for this study.

Men’s Fraternity – The Quest for Authentic Manhood is a captivating journey to help men identify their masculine identity and show them how to make the pursuit of authentic manhood a lifelong priority. Sessions will be offered Wednesdays in Atrium 4 beginning September 9. Aaron McEvoy will lead the 6:00-7:30 a.m. session and Max Webster will lead the 5:30-7:00 p.m. session.
